I’ve been feeling Oriental this week

I’m a big fan of anything with an oriental style, so this weekend  with that in mind, I tried to infuse these cards with some Japanese pizzazz.  As it is winter in Melbourne just now the colours I have used echo that autumn/winter feel.

My first card depicts a Wind Chime, (#fuurin).  I was inspired by a book called ‘Kake Jiku’ (hanging scrolls) by the Japanese fabric artist Kumiko Sudo and I have tried to imitate her pretty fabric creations by scaling them down to card size.  My finished card is 6″ x 51/2″

Although the camera doesn’t pick it up very well, there are a few shiny elements on my card. I heat embossed the little japanese word/s on the wind chime, (sorry I have no idea what it says), in copper embossing powder, which works well with my colour scheme.  I used the #Stampin’ UP! #Botanical Builder framelits for my leaves and flowers.

The second card is the featured design on the front of the book, Kumiko Sudo calls it Chrysanthemum Moon.  I didn’t have any chrysanthemum stamps, but I found a stamp in my collection that looked similar (I think). I’ve just noticed that I have forgotten to add the butterfly to the right side of the card, so I will do that later.   I have also included a picture of the inside of the card too.

I think the cards are quite unique and I am happy with the way they have turned out. To finish this post, here is a picture of both of the cards on the stand that my husband spray painted for me.  I am really happy with it, and it is perfect for taking photographs of my cards.  Just the right size.

I hope you like my oriental expedition.  I feel quite inspired to make a few more for this series of cards.
